EOW Killings: The McStay Family

For those who have read EOW3:The Nameless Ones, you will know that I classify the murders of the McStay Family, Joseph, his wife Summer and their two little boys, as an EOW related crime. Chapter 26 of EOW3 presents the facts accompanied by my explanation and speculation. I check in for the latest in the media for any possible updates or progress on the case, looking for more revealed clues as to why this family found themselves in the sights of EOW killers. As you can see by this recent report, nothing of note has been released by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department investigators. This doesn't mean they have no new leads, it merely means they're protecting the integrity of the investigation. The detectives may very well have something that would be of interest here but who knows how they are interpreting it. As a former federal agent and currently a PI, I can tell you they are certainly working the case and my guess is that they indeed have some revealing leads or they are beginning to face some things that serve to introduce them to the Empire of the Wheel. But that is my speculation.

What are your thoughts?

The Update

Hey all,

Well I just finished the first of three parts that make up the new book! I think it's a doozy, too. Good stuff from an historical and esoteric perspective. Mostly historical.

Secret Missions is turning out to be one of the most fun books I've written so far, for me as a writer. I'm confident you, the readers, will enjoy it as well. The overall theme and thesis are taking me back to an era I was interested in years ago and haven't been so immersed in since high school. I never imagined I would revisit the Spanish conquest in such an unexpected and fascinating manner. The first part has set up the foundation for the second rather well, I think. Because it is the second part that actually inspired me to write this book, I am very excited to be at this point in the writing. Not that the first part didn't blow my mind, as it will yours. I can now get into the data collected during the seven years of EOW research that was pointing to the premise of this new book and share it with you.

When you read Secret Missions, you'll be learning about things I stumbled upon back in 2007 and about suspicions that have only grown stronger as the evidence piled up. It may be my wildest theory yet. When I look back and realize how long I've been aware of the scenario presented in this book, I can't believe I resisted revealing it for as long as I did. Indeed, I never planned to write a book on it. However, I think it's time. Secret Missions does connect to certain aspects of the EOW milieu. I won't exactly call it closure on the material, but it is, in essence, a closure of an era of my life. I found myself unexpectedly in a place I did not want to be and under less than desirable circumstances when after a series of strange events I found myself staring into a mystery I never would have discovered had I not been stuck in the Inland Empire. Essentially, I made lemonade.

Though I haven't identified anything as of yet, I will likely emerge from this book with more possibilities on the edge of things EOW. There is the other new book that I'm writing with a co-author (to be announced with the release of the cover art) and that book is also a by-product of the EOW trilogy in a more direct way than Secret Missions. In fact, I'd re-read EOW2, if you want to get the most out of it. Before then, though, will be Secret Missions, for which you can prepare by reading my Disneyland book, Latitude 33: Key to the Kingdom.

I still haven't made it down to San Diego yet. Finishing the first part was important. The research trip will be more focused now that I'm on the section to which it pertains. In fact, I'm very glad I held off because I want to be in the right frame of mind while I'm there. I'll likely put together a playlist of music for the drive and for while I'm there. I'll even select places to eat that will serve the theme, which will be fun. Hopefully I'll turn up some unexpectedly thrilling data, too. I won't know until I get down there and dig into archives and files. Whatever I find, I know I'll enjoy just being there, my birthplace and college alma mater.

Once I finish the third section, I'll likely start giving more hints about the book's contents. Until then these updates will be writer's meanderings. The update following San Diego should be an especially good one, so we'll both look forward to it. For now, I'm going to relax until it's time to fall asleep. Tomorrow I jump into Part Two.

Until next week...

To Be Named

I'm toying with the idea of a weekly little newsletter report of my doings but I'm not sure if there's enough to tell on a weekly basis. Perhaps I'll just do a monthly. Also, I'm toying with different letterheads under which to present these reports so hopefully soon I'll have something clever and fitting.

Essentially, I am a former federal agent, currently a licensed private investigator (in a state with a dead industry, where classic independent detectives are concerned -- and my biggest source of jobs suddenly died a few months back), a sometime writer of fiction and a small press publisher of a genre few care to read anymore. Fortunately, seven years ago I embarked on an investigation into some strange things and discovered a huge mystery about which I've written four books and a novel and am presently writing another book relative to the general milieu of it all. As a writer, I'm having success at finding an audience because all of you folks reading the books and telling others about them. I am on the periphery of circles of other interesting and better known researchers so along with my meanderings, you'll likely read mention of their latest works, too, as they relate to what I'm doing here in this 'Empire of the Wheel'.

Not all the books are 'Empire of the Wheel' books, per se. For instance, Latitude 33: Key to the Kingdom was written prior to my learning about 'Cora Stanton', though it is about the telluric currents which led me to her. The new book, Secret Missions: The Hidden Legacy of Old California, is not an Empire of the Wheel book but it is the result of things discovered while investigating that mystery. I have no idea yet what the following book will be, but you'll be the first to know when I announce it here. In the meantime, I'm enjoying writing the current new book and can't wait to get it out there.

If a new idea presents itself, I may start another book before this year is over. My ideas usually pop up from the woodwork. I had no idea I'd be writing this new book until a few weeks ago. In fact, it contains a theory that I had not originally intended to make public. However, my research convinced me -- and a few key associates -- that it's worthy of publication, so here I am writing it. I think you'll find it as exciting as I do.

Hopefully soon I'll be taking a research trip to San Diego. There are some archives I need to peruse and sites I need to stare at and analyze. I also need to see two of my best friends who happen to live there and share some cold liquid hops and tales of our recent adventures. On the weekend of Oct 18th I will definitely be down there for an Aztecs football game which several college friends and I have been doing for a few years now. We always have a tailgate BBQ before the game and catch up on the latest. It gives me the opportunity to wear one of my various Aztec hats and reflect on how far we've all come since SDSU. Even my choice of colleges reflects a fascination with ancient civilizations and lost America. You'll learn more about my lifelong link to San Diego and how it reflects upon the new book, in the weeks ahead.

In the meantime, I'm going to get back to working on the book. Thanks again to all who have shown an interest in what I'm doing here i.e. with the books. I've been told I'm onto something big and I agree. It has been a major influence on my life so I'll keep struggling along to get it on 'paper' and maybe we'll both see the whole story before too long.

More to follow!
